Stream Kimono Kult's Debut EP - Hiding in the Light
Recently formed supergroup Kimono Kult is streaming four-track debut EP Hiding in the Light to coincide with its release today. The sextet, which boasts guitarists John Frusciante (ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (formerly of Mars Volta and At The Drive-In), have called the EP four songs "conversations of instrumental ecstasy" constructed from a blend of of electro, dub, afro-beat, avant-freak and jazz.
This musical melting pot is also seasoned with lyrics that are largely in Spanish. Singer Teri Gender Bender (Le Butcherettes, Bosnian Rainbows) explained the decision to record in her mother-tongue as an exercise in breaking the unspoken rules of Spanish, saying she approached it as an alien from outerspace. The result is an unsettling and genre-defying sound that is sure to intrigue many an eardrum. Hiding in the Light is being release via Neurotic Yell, head over here to take a listen.
